I ran a 5k and I came in second!!

Some of you are thinking, "wow this girl is hardcore!" Others are...well...waiting for the rest of the story.

First of all, shame on everyone who doesn't think I would place second in a 5k! All those cupcakes make me run fast.

So it all started this morning at 7:40 when me and my friend Lindsey (and our crazy enthused fans, aka our husbands) arrived in South Daytona for the 12th annual 5k.
We've been running the couch to 5k, I'm in week 5, I wish I would have stayed on the couch...
See those guys with 0% body fat? I was actually 3 steps in front of them and missed being in this picture.

Okay, I lie.

Do you see me here? Yeah, that's me, 3 steps in front of the last person. Do you see that little kid in front of me? I beat him. Take that, sucka.

So the only thing interesting about a race is the beginning and the end...oh and the Award Ceremony, don't worry I'll get to that.

Lindsey left me in the dust the last quarter mile. She rounded the last corner looked back at me and yelled, "This is where I take off like a bat out of hell!" And she was gone.

This me on the last stretch. Do you see me on the left?
Passed them! Didn't want to be last. I had the encouraging words of my husband ringing in my ear, "wow, this race is so small there is a good chance you could come in last."

So Lindsey took off because she had to work out. (WHAT?! Yeah, you're not the only one who missed something :) And then I discovered something...

I CAME IN SECOND! (in my age bracket). It also could be called coming in last. But you know what, second place gets a plaque. (If you look closely, you can see my age is wrong, I'm 24, not 23. Evidently my husband doesn't know how old I am).

So of course I wanted to wait to get my award. I was a little nervous, but a little excited too.

When they finally called my name, I walked up, my acceptance speech prepared...when...they couldn't find my plaque!!!!  I'm standing there in front of hundreds (well one hundred) people for running a whopping time of 36.03 minutes, to get my second place plaque, and they can't find it! Finally, the award presenter said, into the mic, "We'll find it Francesca, there's been a mix up." So I retreated back to my fans (who were hysterically laughing) empty handed.

They finally found it, and called me back up in front of everyone.

But, I got a plaque! Impressed?

  1. That was HILLARIOUS!!! Mike and I were laughing so hard reading this! The plaque thing would only happen to you;)

  2. Congrats on the 5k! I love small races for this reason exactly :)

  3. Great job! You finished your 5k in week 5 - you're advanced! :)
